Gargoyles, the Disney animated series from the 1990s, is returning to the video game realm with a remaster of a retro title.
Gargoyles Remastered is an updated version of the SEGA Genesis title from 1995 and will mark the franchise’s return to gaming. The announcement came during the D23 Expo as part of the company’s gaming showcase.
Details are still scarce, at this point, surrounding the game including a date and specific consoles for release. Disney hasn’t announced if any of the original voice actors will return for the game either.
This announcement comes on the heels of an earlier announcement during San Diego Comic-Con where Disney revealed the franchise’s return to comic books. Dynamite Entertainment will publish the series in the near future though no specific schedule has been released.
Gargoyles is a Saturday morning cartoon that ran on ABC for three seasons from 1994-97. The series focused on nocturnal creatures called gargoyles that protected the city by night but turned to stone during the day.
The arrival of Disney Plus has evoked a lot of nostalgia surrounding as all three seasons are airing on the streaming platform.
This also follows a trend of Disney remastering old games. In 2013, DuckTales: Remastered, an upgrade of a previous Nintendo Entertainment System game, came out on numerous consoles. Disney also remastered Aladdin, The Lion King, and The Jungle Book of 16-bit fame.
