Boss Rush Banter: Which Franchises Would You Like to See More of on the Nintendo Switch?

3–4 minutes

Nintendo and Bandai Namco recently surprised fans with the remastered port of the GameCube classic Tales of Symphonia as part of its Sept. 13 Nintendo Direct.

This adds a second Tales of game to the Switch as Tales of Vesperia, a former exclusive to the Xbox 360, is already available for fans to play. This adds to a growing trend of companies slowly releasing games not previously available to Nintendo fans as they released on other consoles.

Granted, Tales of Symphonia was a GameCube-exclusive and then released on other consoles such as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Still, it adds to a franchise that has been largely dormant on the Switch, both in terms of new and retro titles.

There are plenty of franchises that fit this mold, both of games that haven’t been on a Nintendo console or those that have yet to bring all their titles to the Switch.

So, which franchises would you like to see built out more on the Nintendo Switch?

Missing Franchise Pieces on the Switch

The Tales of franchise is a good place to start, in my opinion. There have been a few games released on Nintendo consoles, but recently, the series has been absent from the Switch, and the Wii U for that matter.

As a newcomer to role-playing games, this franchise has carried a lot of weight over the years, and I’d love to have an opportunity to play more on the Switch. Tales of Arise also missed the Switch when it released in 2021.

Another franchise I’d love to see more of on the Switch is the Dragon Quest series. Unlike the Tales of series, the most recent iteration of Dragon Quest — Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age — is on the Switch.

Furthermore, the original trilogy of Dragon Quest games are available, but Dragon Quest IV through X are missing.  Dragon Quest and Nintendo have had good relationships, but the series has struggled to catch on in the West.

There are some franchises that are doing well in their releases like Final Fantasy. Many of the games that originally debuted on the PlayStation 1 and 2 have made their way to the Switch, many of which are considered the greatest of the franchise.

What is missing is the original six games. The format is there in the pixel remasters and this RPG fan is just waiting for them to debut.

One last franchise I’d love to delve into the history of is the Ys series from Nihon Falcom. We have three games so far in Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana and Ys IX: Monstrum Nox as well as Ys Origins.

What Do You Think?

I know I mentioned all RPGs, but those are the games I’d most like to see continue releasing on the Switch. Tales of Symphonia is a great start, but I’d love to see more from the franchise.

As for the format, collections would be ideal as we’re seeing with franchises such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection and Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection.
What do you think? Which franchises that skipped Nintendo consoles, or hasn’t been on one for a while, would you like to see released on the Switch? Let us know in the comments below or on our Discord channel.
