Elden Ring, Steam Deck, Stray, and More–Winners at the 2022 Golden Joystick Awards

Troy Baker and Laura Bailey are familiar names in the video game industry, and they co-hosted the 2022 Golden Joystick Awards. Twenty-one categories were covered in a two hour stream, honoring AAA and indie titles alike. Although, to no one’s surprise, Elden Ring took home the most number of awards (four total).

So, let’s down to the winners:

This was an amazing year for indies. All the nominees were powerhouses: Tunic, Rollerdrome, Dorfromantik, Neon White, Tear Down, and Cult of the Lamb.

Best Multiplayer Game

Elden Ring took yet another award home, beating out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenue, MultiVersus, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and Splatoon 3.

Breakthrough Award: Vampire Survivors

Critic’s Choice Award

Best Performer

Nintendo GOTY (Game of the Year)

Contenders for Nintendo’s Game of the Year were Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Live A Live, Splatoon 3, Nintendo Switch Sports, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and this years winner–Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

PC GOTY

PlayStation GOTY

The cat’s in the bag for Stray, the Sony exclusive that came out on top. Other nominees were Sifu, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring, and The Last of Us Part 1. Yes. Stray beat Elden Ring in this category.

Xbox GOTY: Grounded

Although Xbox did not have a stellar year for first-part titles, there were plenty of wonderful games to enjoy on the platform. Nominees were Scorn, As Dusk Falls, Sniper Elite 5, Halo Infinite, Dying Light 2: Stay Human, and the winner– Grounded.

Most Wanted Game

Nineteen games were nominated for Most Wanted Game. Nineteen. This should speak to how jam-packed 2023 will be with incredible games on all platforms. Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom beat out some heavy hitters, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, Dead Space, Starfield, Street Fighter 6, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Dead Island 2. Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases May 2023.

Ultimate GOTY

Although Elden Ring’s victory is no surprise, let’s honor all the nominees who made 2022 a fun year: Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, Immortality, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Teardown, Bayonetta 3, Neon White, God of War Ragnarok, Return to Monkey Island, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
