Mega Man 12 Website Domain Updated, Sparking Rumors

2–3 minutes

The domain address for the Mega Man 12 website has been updated, as first noticed by fansite Rockman-Corner, which could potentially mean a new game in the classic franchise is on the way.

The domains for Mega Man 12, 13, 14, and 15 were first registered in 2018, shortly before the release of Mega Man 11. At the time, these were assumed to be merely placeholders for hypothetical sequels, and were to prevent others from claiming the websites ahead of the game’s publisher, Capcom.

Now, just ahead of the franchise’s 35th Anniversary–which falls on December 17–the website for Mega Man 12 specifically has been updated, though because the website cannot yet be properly accessed, it’s unknown what these updates entail.

The domain’s registrant is GMO Internet Group, a Japanese company that has registered domain’s on Capcom’s behalf for years; previously, they acquired the domain addresses for Devil May Cry 5, Resident Evil 2, and Monster Hunter: World, and more.

A new mainline sequel for the blue bomber would make good business sense, as Capcom just recently announced that Mega Man 11 has become the best selling game in the franchise with 1.6 million copies sold across all platforms.

Capcom does already have a 35th anniversary celebration planned for its titular hero, as Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection is set to arrive in 2023.

What say you? Will we be enjoying Mega Man 12 in the very near future, or is this just “business as usual” for Capcom? Let us know what you think in the comments below and on our social media pages!
