Risen is Coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Switch in January

THQ Nordic has announced that a port of the cult action RPG Risen will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on January 24, 2023.

The game comes via an exclusive partnership between THQ Nordic and GameStop.

While not a full remaster, the publishers state that Risen “will be finally running smooth and in its full quality on console platforms, while the old PC version will get a gamepad support update.”

Developed by Piranha Bytes, with Wizarbox porting the game to Xbox 360, the 2009 game follows a player created character as they adventure the mountainous island of Faranga, which houses a massive active volcano and a dangerous cult.

While Risen initially received high praise on PC, the Xbox 360 port was considered lackluster, and was criticized for its poor performance. This new release should remedy those issues to give players a more authentic experience.

Risen‘s success led to two sequels: 2012’s Risen 2: Dark Waters, and 2014’s Risen 3: Titan Lords.
