A scene from Final Fantasy XVI

Boss Rush Banter: Which Final Fantasy Game is Your Favorite?

Final Fantasy is one of a select few franchises that has not only had a gigantic impact on the gaming world, but it also boasts a fair amount of mileage.

The franchise hits its 35th anniversary in late 2022 and it shows no signs of slowing down in its 36th year of existence. Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are both slated for 2023 releases.

There’s so much to love about this franchise including its novelty, its unique slate of characters, and its soothing musical scores, to just name a few. Developer Square Enix has also made past games accessible to audiences for years to come.

Nintendo Switch users have FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, and FFXII all available to them after all these games skipped the brand at the time of their release. Furthermore, the recent news of the ESRB releasing the ratings for the pixel remasters of the first six games for PlayStation 4 and Switch opens the franchise to more audiences.

Many gamers have enjoyed the various iterations of Final Fantasy games so much so that it begs the question: which game is your favorite?

This can be an insanely tough question for some and many can’t bring themselves to name the top dog. Still, I’ve found that many select the game that resonated with them the most at a certain point in their lives.

Others may select a favorite title based on which party was their most favorite. Some also select their favorite based on an engaging story that took them on an emotional roller coaster.

Whatever the reason, those who have played Final Fantasy have come to love one or two titles above the rest.

I’m fairly new to the franchise, and role-playing games as a whole. I have only beaten Final Fantasy VII and am in the midst of Final Fantasy VIII. While I have not played enough to name a definitive top game in my list, I lean toward Final Fantasy VII, for now, as it was my first and the story has stuck with me since I beat it earlier this year.

I am so excited for the pixel remasters of the first six games to make it to Switch so I can have more Final Fantasy games to try. I’m particularly looking forward to Final Fantasy VI, but I’ve got my eye on FFV.

All that said, selecting a favorite game is largely a personal choice as we all have individual reasons why a game is our favorite.

So what about you? Which Final Fantasy game is your favorite? Why is that one your favorite? Let us know in the comments below or head over to our Discord channel to join the discussion.
