The Super Mario Bros. Movie is just months away and one fan took it upon themselves to reimagine the most recent trailer with some ‘90s nostalgia.
The YouTuber King Bob Gaming recreated frame by frame the newest The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer with the aesthetic of Super Mario 64. The trailer King Bob Gaming used originally aired during a Nintendo Direct on Nov. 29.
The video remake, which has drawn almost 500,000 views, featured Nintendo 64 recreations of Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Peach, Bowser, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi. Despite the nostalgic animations, the recreation kept the original audio of the trailer.
King Bob Gaming said he initially made a partial version of recreation that featured the opening segment of Mario and Donkey Kong facing off.
The YouTuber said if that video reached 10,000 likes, he would recreate the entire trailer. That partial version drew about 27,000 likes.
King Bob Gaming joked in the comments of recreating the entire movie if his trailer remake drew 100,000 likes. The video sits with about 26,000 likes.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is slated to release April 7, 2023. Its cast features Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Jack Black as Bowser.
Along with the most recent trailer, fans got a movie clip that debuted during The Game Awards earlier this month. That clip featured Mario in the Mushroom Kingdom following Toad to Princess Peach’s castle.
Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment’s casting of Chris Pratt has drawn a lot of attention with fans split on the decision for a bevy of reasons.
Furthermore, there has been a lot of excitement surrounding the depiction of Princess Peach that seems to break the norm of her “damsel in distress” model. There have also been detractors on this front.
This movie has snowballed from a pebble of eye rolls to a boulder of excitement. People are excited about this movie at a level that is crazy given how unsuccessful video game-to-film adaptations tend to be over the years.
Seeing a full-on remake of a trailer in these graphics further shows how excited the community is for this movie. At the very least, it’s just a fun and creative project, but to me, it is so much more reflective of the constantly building excitement leading into April.
