Inspiration often comes from the most interesting places, but did you know it can come from a professional wrestling show?
On a recent episode of All Elite Wrestling’s flagship show Dynamite, a fan held up a sign that read, “Remake Golden Sun you cowards!” Aside from the totally random spot to find such a sign, it did get me thinking about remakes.
We’ve seen a host of remakes in recent years, including several announced projects yet to be made. To take it a step further, the sign referenced a role-playing game series that has long been dormant.
RPGs, specifically Japanese RPGS, tend to draw a lot of popularity from fans, especially games that debuted in the 1990s. The problem is many of those games have turned 30 or will cross that threshold in coming years.
So the issue persists of how fans play these games. That Dynamite fan clearly had a strong enough opinion to broadcast it over cable TV and I think he may be right.
So, which RPG is due for a remake or remaster?
My opinions stem from an experience of missing many of these games during their initial release. I grew up with a Nintendo 64 and missed many popular JRPGs that graced the original PlayStation.
I’ve revisited a few, such as Final Fantasy VII and VIII, and have plans for others, such as Chrono Cross. Additionally, I was too young for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System era.
With that said, I would love a chance to visit Xenogears and the Xenosaga games. I’ve heard nothing but good things about these games and didn’t have a chance to play them so I’d love to play a remake or remaster.
Furthermore, I love Xenoblade Chronicles and while the game isn’t a direct sequel to either Xenogears or Xenosaga games, it does inhabit the same series.

Another I’d love to see as a remake or remaster is The Legend of Dragoon. Again, this is another I missed from the original PlayStation but have heard enough good thoughts on it that I want a chance to play it.
There are so many others I’d love to see return such as older Dragon Quest games and the entirety of Lufia games.
And of course, the man who inspired this whole piece is right. I’d love to see a remake of Golden Sun. Fortunately, I do have both Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age on my Wii U so they’re not completely lost though time is running out.
There are so many great JRPGs out there that need to make a debut on modern consoles.
So, which RPG title would you like to see get a remake or a remaster? Is there a series you’ve never tried that you would love to experience for the first time through a remake? Let us know in the comments below or by heading over to our Discord channel.
