Square Enix Drops Surprise Demo for Dragon Quest Treasures

Dragon Quest Treasures is now available to more players as Square Enix quietly dropped a demo in the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Square Enix made the announcement via its Dragon Quest Twitter account, officially debuting the demo for North American and European audiences. The demo’s release comes over a month after Dragon Quest Treasures initially debuted.

This demo also comes on the heels of a Japanese release in late December. The demo allows players to carry over their save data if they decide to buy the full game.

Dragon Quest Treasures released on Dec. 9, 2022 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. It is an action role-playing game, a departure from the mainline, turn-based Dragon Quest games.

It centers on young siblings Erik and Mia, both of whom debuted in Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age with Erik being part of the main party.

The siblings live on a Viking longship and have aspirations of exploring a world full of treasure. After encountering mythical creatures Porcus and Purrsula, the two find themselves on the mysterious world of Draconia, a land full of treasure.

Erik and Mia recruit monsters to help them on their quest and seek to discover all Draconia has to offer.

Dragon Quest Treasures has received mixed to positive reviews since its release with some calling it a great introduction to the RPG genre. Some reviewers have noted it is not a difficult game but does carry a lot of charm.

Those interested in purchasing the game via the Nintendo eShop can save a bit as the game is on sale for $49.79 until Jan. 19. The game does offer downloadable content for $5.
