A new trailer is here for the Apple TV+’s upcoming Tetris movie.
The movie, which is slated for a March 30 release, will center on businessman Henk Rogers and his attempt to bring Tetris to a worldwide audience. This comes at a time when the game, which Alexey Pajitnov developed, was locked behind the Iron Curtain in the Soviet Union.
Rogers attempts to work out a deal with the Soviets and finds himself in a complicated situation of international proportions. The movie is not a documentary, but rather based on a true story.
The trailer revealed the film will carry an R rating for language. This is the first trailer for the film despite its short wait-time until release.
Taron Egerton will star as Rogers and Toby Jones will play Robert Stein, an Andromeda Software executive who initially approached Pajitnov to distribute Tetris. Nikita Efremov will play Pajitnov in the film.
The film also explores how Rogers helps bring the game to the Game Boy and Nintendo. This comes at a time when Nintendo recently announced the addition of Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games, including Tetris, to Nintendo Switch Online.
Tetris joins a growing list of original TV shows and movies slated for release on Apple TV+ in the coming months. This comes as some reviewers have critiqued the streaming service for the lack of original content.
Video games have recently seen an influx as source material with HBO Max’s The Last of Us enjoying time in the limelight.
