Blood-spattered corridors, dismembered workers, screams in the dark; Electronic Arts and Motive Studio’s 2023 remake of Dead Space is as terrifying as it is mesmerizing. I never played the original, but I’ve been a lifelong fan of sci-fi horror, thanks in no small part to the Alien franchise. Dead Space more than scratches the itch—it makes me dream of a sequel. Good thing one already exists.
Dead Space (2023) has received industry-wide praise with a Metascore score of 89. The game remains largely true to the original while streamlining gameplay and adding in a few extras. For folks new to the franchise, it feels and plays very much like a brand-new game.

Still the game has its detractors. Some reviewers like Jimquisition feel that the EA betrayed the franchise by driving it down the wrong path before ultimately pulling the plug. Jimquisition feels that “for EA to sell a remake of the original with a different team and try to profit off of something it so carelessly wrecked…” is extremely offensive.
I don’t have strong feelings on this critique as I’m new to the franchise; however, it’s worth noting that critiques like this one are on principle rather than on issues with the game experience. Given such, I’d fully support a remake of Dead Space 2, as I’m not ready for my journey with this franchise to end.
