Leading up to yesterday’s Pokémon Presents, there was a lot of speculation as to what they would announce.
A lot were hoping for a DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Those folks left the Presents happy with the announcement of The Hidden Treasures of Area Zero.
Others hoped they would finally connect Pokémon Home to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. They, too, received joyous news.
But a faction of fans left Pokemon Presents a bit unsatisfied. They made their displeasure known minutes after by bringing it into the top 30 trending topics on Twitter.
What did they think was missing from yesterday’s Pokémon Presents?
Johto.
A group of us (yes, myself included) had wished for (and will continue to hope for) the Johto region to jump to Nintendo Switch. While other areas have gotten multiple remakes and ports across various systems, Johto has gotten a singular one the better part of a decade ago.
The last time we were able to explore that region was on the 3DS. To their admission, Nintendo has ruled that the Nintendo 3DS is obsolete and will shut down its eShop next month.
And with it goes our most recent way to explore the Johto region.
When the Nintendo Switch was new, they released Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee. These games explored the original Kanto region in style like the one we experienced in childhood.
To that end, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have the formula to create a remake of Johto and bring that region to its current console. Yet year after year, they choose not to.
