Fire Emblem has become a major player in Nintendo’s arsenal, but it hasn’t always been. For years, Fire Emblem was known as “that game Marth and Roy are from.” However, the franchise has become massively successful with recent titles like Fire Emblem Engage and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. With the recent addition of Game Boy Advance games to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, one of the games announced for a future release was Fire Emblem, or Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade in Japan. The Switch’s lifespan seems to be drawing near a close, but could we still see another game or too added to the system?
With Fire Emblem Engage coming out just last month, it’s not very likely that we’ll get a brand new game for a while. The most obvious game to be added would be to see 2004’s Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones come to NSO. The game’s engine is incredibly similar to Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, so it seems like a natural addition to the service, serving as almost a spiritual successor to The Blazing Blade.
I’d love to see Fire Emblem: Genealogy Of The Holy War and Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 show up in some capacity. Originally released on the Super Famicom in Japan in 1996 and 1999, the games tell two parts of the same overarching story spanning multiple years. Aside from never being released in the West, these are also the earliest games from the series that haven’t yet been remade. Even hardcore Fire Emblem fans probably don’t know too much about these games. Throw in a translation, and the Switch seems like a perfect place to package the games.
But let’s be honest. The game most fans would probably want to see on Switch is Path of Radiance. This game, released for the GameCube in 2005, was the first game featuring Ike, who you’ve seen in Super Smash Bros. This was the first console Fire Emblem game released in the West, and as such, didn’t get a massive production. Now, almost twenty years later, a copy of the game goes for as high as $300. It’s one of the most beloved games in the franchise, with tons of unique maps and characters. It only makes sense to see it rereleased.
