Mario is furthering his presence on Nintendo Switch Online.
Nintendo recently announced three classic Mario games will make their way to the Game Boy Advance wing of Nintendo Switch Online starting May 26. These additions mark the first expansion of the Game Boy Advance tier since its debut last February.
The three titles include Super Mario Advance, Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, and Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3.
These games join a host of other Mario games already on the list of Game Boy Advance titles on the service. Other titles include Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, Mario Kart Super Circuit, and Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga.
Super Mario Advance — which originally released on March 21 2001 — is a remake of the NES game Super Mario Bros. 2 using the graphical design from Super Mario All-Stars.
Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 — which originally released on Dec. 14, 2001 — is a port of Super Mario World from the SNES.
Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 — which originally released Sept. 20, 2002 — is a port of the SNES title Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island.
Each game featured numerous upgrades and improvements from the original titles including changed level design with lowered difficulty as well as graphical and sound improvements. Originally, each game included the original arcade game Mario Bros.
With these releases, all Super Mario Advance titles are now on Nintendo Switch Online.
Nintendo added Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles to its online service following an announcement during a Direct earlier this year. Game Boy titles are part of the standard offering while GBA titles are in the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier.
At the time of release, Nintendo teased additional games that would make their way to the service, listing out a few titles that would be coming soon. These titles were not among the options teased during the Direct.
