Boss Rush Banter: Can the AMPTP Outlast the Writer’s Guild of America?

Two weeks ago, I talked about the importance of the Writer’s Strike as its something important to me. And now that SAG-AFTRA has also gone on strike, one can’t help but wonder what will happen.

If you haven’t seen the article by Deadline, go and take a look at that and then come back to this banter.

To say that the Deadline article got my blood boiling is an understatement. I knew that writers weren’t treated the best under the current contract but reading accounts broke my heart.

The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers or the AMPTP, did not come into this in good faith. Fran Drescher spoke at a press conference announcing the SAG-AFTRA strike the other day and I can’t say it better than her.

Can the AMPTP outlast the writers? Considering they lost around 2 billion dollars in the 2008 strike (which lasted 104 days and currently this strike is around 75 days), I’m not so sure they can.

Yes, writers need studios to produce their scripts. But studios need writers to create content so they have product to put out.

Writers are the foundation that writers take to make the movies and shows that you love. We need one another and the studios need both of us.

So no. I do not think the AMPTP can wait this out. Eventually (and I believe that might be sooner rather than later), they’ll feel this in their wallets.

What do you think? Can the studios outlast the writers? How much has the game changed with SAG-AFTRA going on strike? Facebook Group or our Boss Rush Discord.
