Kiroth Krakeneye, a flashy pirate elf, can soon join your Blood Bowl team.
Some of Warhammer Fantasy’s Dark Elves are not content with the land, and depart for the sea as pirates. Many take up masks inspired by the sea, particularly kraken masks, as they raid and pillage along the coast. Yo ho ho, it’s a pirate’s life for them…even on the field.
Blood Bowl is a board game originally designed by Jervis Johnson in 1986. A loving parody of classic Warhammer Fantasy, it asks one all-important question: “What if all the Warhammer factions could work out their differences with a ‘friendly’ game of American football?”
During a battle, the Dwarfs and Orcs discovered the strange temple of the god Nuffle, and the rules that makes up his rites. After that – and after discovering the strange, green grass-like surface the games are played on – the game of Blood Bowl spread throughout the world, replacing war…but not the violence.
Who is Kiroth Krakeneye?
Sailors love their tall tales, and none more so than the swashbuckling commodore of the Elven circuit known as Kiroth Krakeneye. As commander of the Black Ark Fateful Voyage, Kiroth has taken his Blood Bowl talents to the four corners of the world, where the stories of his supposed exploits have made him a household name among fans.
In one particularly outlandish tale – that he himself insists is true – the crew of the Fateful Voyage wrapped their vessel in enchantments and dove below the waves to play a friendly game against the mythical Southstorm Squids. Though the game ended in tragedy when the enchantments wore off and the entire team was crushed beneath the waves, Krakeneye alleges the Squids saved him personally and gave him his eye-catching headwear as a consolation prize.
It’s this tentacular helmet that gives Kiroth his name, for the seemingly inert face comes alive during matches to writhe and lash out in a disturbing manner. So downright weird is the display that few players want to spend more than a moment around him, and if any are brave enough to look right at the man, they’re wont to get an eyeful of Black Ink for their trouble.

His special rule makes him an ideal technical player, as his ability can be used to knock out a Tackle Zone. He costs 160,000 GP to enlist for you team.
This model is cast in resin. Resin is excellent for capturing fine detail, and holds paint well, but has a significant downside. It is exceptionally difficult to do anything with resin beyond painting a model as-is, as its fine dust is a carcinogenic hazard. This is not truly a flaw, I own and enjoy resin models, but it is a risk worth mentioning so everyone can enjoy the hobby safely.
Games Workshop no longer credits model designers and painters by name. This is unacceptable. As the creative force that keeps the company running, the artists responsible deserve full, clear, and public credit.
While no specific release date has been announced, Kiroth Krakeneye will be available from Games Workshop’s Forge World soon.
