The graphics in games have greatly evolved over the years. From green graphics, 8-bit, 16-bit, all the way to todays amazing visuals, we always strive to have a complete and beautiful experience no matter the medium of art that is chosen. However, when a product is made, we expect the same consistency of that product across all platforms, unless it cannot be supported. In these cases, they must be assessed and planned through.
I have played games in the past where there have been glitches and unseen issues with character models. Usually, it was more funny or non-game alternating in nature. For example, in Fallout 4, my character had glitched to where the skin was no longer meshed over the face and the gruesome flesh and skeletal structure peered through the overlay. A mixture of horrifying and surprising visuals indeed.
Apart from these issues I have experienced in the past I have come to realize that games are becoming more and more complex and have a lot more to rake through when it comes to checking for issues and making sure it all works on multiple platforms. The recent release of Mortal Kombat 1 is an excellent example of why this important check on all releases for quality with appropriate pricing could make sense.
If you purchased or saw videos of the Mortal Kombat 1 version on Nintendo Switch versus the other versions, you can see a huge difference in the screenshots or video of the characters graphical features. Distorted and unsatisfactory visual comparison between the versions makes us wonder as consumers if something is subpar shouldn’t the price reflect this? A price of 69.99 US Dollars was the price on all versions, but do you think the pricing was appropriate on the Nintendo Switch version? As a consumer I expect the price to reflect the quality of the product. If a doctor preformed plastic surgery on twins and one looked vastly better then that others surgery but charged the same price, wouldn’t that make the consumer and others who see it feel a bit cheated? I’m sure that answer will vary, but the image is still present.
Should a lower cost be implemented because of the lower quality visuals, or do you think that the pricing is justified on all platforms? Did you purchase the game?
