Boss Rush Banter: Don’t Give Up Hope on Tears of the Kingdom DLC

When it comes to additional content for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the answer seems pretty clear.

Or does it?

Zelda Producer Eiji Aonuma made his position clear back in September, claiming that the team did all they “wanted to achieve in this world and story.” He invited all to “continue to enjoy the vast world of Hyrule.”

Never say never, though.

Recent DLC announcements seem to show that video game producers might not always be forthcoming when it comes to expansions of their games.

Take Tales of Arise, for example.

Producer Yusuke Tomiwaza claimed, in 2022, that there was no plans for DLC for the 2021 action RPG because he was happy with how the story ended. All that changed earlier this year when Bandai Namco revealed an extensive DLC for the game.

Bandai Namco isn’t alone.

Final Fantasy XVI Producer Naoki Yoshida initially announced there would be no DLC for his game. He later changed his tune after seeing fan response and his time is working on two paid DLC packages.

So, you see, there is precedent.

Tears of the Kingdom could absolutely benefit from DLC. I do agree with Aonuma in his assessment that the game has done so much in terms of story and gameplay. Having a lengthy side quest with Master Kohga and the Yiga Clan felt like it could’ve been DLC but made it into the game.

What specific DLC could look like is anyone’s guess. I wouldn’t fault the Zelda team for turning their focus from the game and to other project. That said, I think you can’t rule out the possibility of Aonuma changing his mind.

So many others have before them and no one would fault him if he did. In fact, if the expansion enhanced an already masterpiece of a game, fans will quickly forget any previous denials.

In fact, many are hoping he does change his mind.

But what about you? Would you like to see DLC for Tears of the Kingdom? How would you like it to look? Let us know in the comments below or head over to our Discord channel to join the conversation.
