Everyone loves a good theme song.
This increasingly skipped section of a TV show helped reintroduce viewers to the world and set the stage for the coming entertainment. There are many songs that garner the title of greatest and each one rightfully earns that mark.
And then there’s the underrated category.
These theme songs don’t get the unanimous praise like others, but they are still just as good. The most underrated theme song, I believe, is for What’s New, Scooby-Doo?
By name, many might not know what this theme song is, but listen to the below clip and it’s sure to jostle your memory.
This theme is by Simple Plan and it captures the pop-punk rock of the era perfectly. This works well for the show since it tried to be a Scooby-Doo show for a new generation.
Simple Plan did not have to go as hard is it did, but they perform a theme song that has garnered plenty of outside attention. On Spotify, the What’s New, Scooby-Doo? theme song ranks third on the band’s most popular list.
Furthermore, the band will sometimes play the theme song during live sets. That’s a testament to its staying power.
Admittedly, I’m a sucker for a rock band performing a theme song. I could put up the Phineas and Ferb theme song by Bowling for Soup as another underrated classic. I’m also a fan of the Malcolm in the Middle theme from They Might Be Giants.
I could even venture down the professional wrestling route as Monday Night Raw had some fantastic rock theme songs during the 2000s.
Everyone’s preferences will be different. Some will think Simple Plan shouldn’t be doing a theme song or that it wasn’t that good. Others will love it and wax nostalgic.
For me, it’s one of my favorite theme songs even though I’m a bit too old for the demographic that watched this as a kid. I always love when it pops up on my 2000s Pop-Punk playlist.
