Post-apocalyptic RPG Broken Roads Reveals New Character Origins Video

2–3 minutes

Independent game studio Drop Bear Byte has revealed a new video introducing the Hired Gun player character origin story for its upcoming isometric RPG Broken Roads. The game launches on Steam, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on November 14th.

The Hired Gun origin presents the player character as a mercenary who grew up “with a gun in hand” and was used as a sharpshooter by their “cruel, tyrannical parents,” before escaping to live life on their own terms. The Hired Gun is a gunslinger, using what appears to be a rifle for combat encounters. They’ll be one of four classes available in the game. The other three origins are called Barter Crew, Jackaroo, and Surveyor.

Broken Roads is a narrative-driven RPG that brings exploration, strategic turn-based combat and philosophical choices to the Australian outback in a post-apocalyptic setting. Character development in the game is built around one of four philosophies: Humanist, Utilitarian, Machiavellian, and Nihilist. Broken Roads’ locations are all recreated from the development team visiting towns and landmarks in West Australia. Players interested in the game can check out the demo on Steam.

Drop Bear Bytes is an independent studio headquartered in Torquay, Victoria, Australia. Drop Bear Bytes was established in early 2019 with the goal of developing a deep, narrative-driven role-playing experience. It is working in partnership with publisher Versus Evil, a US-based video game publisher behind video games such as First Class Trouble, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, and The Banner Saga trilogy.
