Free League Publishing’s latest game, The Electric State RPG, has entered its final week on Kickstarter. The game is based on acclaimed artist and author Simon Stålenhag’s book. Free League previously adapted his book Tales From the Loop to tabletop, as well.
The Electric State RPG features never-before-published art by Stålenhag which was created for the original project. It is written by Nils Hintze, who also authored the Tales from the Loop RPG), in collaboration with the Free League core team and based on Free League’s award-winning Year Zero Engine. The design team includes Tomas Härenstam (Blade Runner RPG), Mattias Johnsson Haake (Symbaroum), and Nils Karlén (Coriolis). Chris Lites (Twilight: 2000) provides additional editing. Graphic design is provided by Johan Nohr (MÖRK BORG) and Christian Granath (ALIEN RPG).
This is a game about a group of travelers heading out on a journey through a strange America in an alternate 1997. The ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside, heaped together with the discarded trash of a high tech consumerist society in decline.
The game is not about the goal but the journey – what the characters experience and how it changes them. This is a game of exploration, but that which is explored is yourself and your friends, and what you are willing to do when the world collapses around you.

In addition to the rules, the game features a detailed account of the US in the alternate 1990s, and extensive tools for generating Locations and Journeys, as well as a pre-made versions of each. The book is expected to provide enough material to cover play for dozens of sessions.
Shortly after the Kickstarter ends, all backers will receive a condensed Alpha PDF preview of The Electric State RPG.

Notably, The Electric State RPG coincides with pre-production of a film based on Stålenhag’s bag, directed by the Russo brothers and starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt.
