Boss Rush Banter: What Are You Looking Forward to Most at the Xbox Developer Direct?

Microsoft will draw first blood in 2024 with its Developer Direct on January 18th, ahead of Sony and Nintendo. After acquiring several studios and fighting the good fight during the FTC hearings, Xbox is past due to shine. Sure, they had Starfield in 2023, but owners of their console are hungry for more. What are you most excited to see at this Direct?

Microsoft’s press release was fairly direct (pun intended) about the bulk of what they will focus on this January 18th. They state:

…fans will get an inside look at a selection of highly anticipated games coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass

They proceed to mention the following:

  • MachineGames’ Indiana Jones game
  • Oxide Games’ Ara: History Untold
  • Obsidian’s Avowed
  • Ninja Theory’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

This may sound like the cliche answer, but I am most hyped for MachineGames’ update on the Indiana Jones game. There’s little we know about it, but I know Xbox could use an action-adventure title in its arsenal akin to Sony’s Uncharted or the Tomb Raider franchise. It looks like we will get decent information and game play–something substantial for us to get excited about!

I would say the same for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, but we have seen trailers for it in the past, and I’m just ready for a firm release date. The press release say this about Ninja Theory’s update on the 18th:

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II:Ninja Theory take us behind the scenes at their studio in Cambridge to give us some insight on how they are crafting Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. The team will speak to the ambition and meticulous care involved in creating Senua’s journey of survival.

This statement does not indicate we will be seeing game play, which I think is important for us.

Because of how detailed Microsoft was of their developer roster, I believe there won’t be any major surprises. And for those Silksong fans? As much as it would be great, but my money is that you won’t be seeing anything on that game this time (I hope I am wrong, of course).
