Genshin Impact has been a long-running game and now has 79 playable characters. Five-star characters can take quite a bit of investment in order for players to unlock them in comparison to four-star characters.
As a casual player, I struggled at first in deciding which characters I should invest my time into. I started out as a F2P (free-to-play) player who saved every primogem I could to summon the characters I really wanted. I moved into becoming a more casual spender since I really loved the game and didn’t mind supporting the company monetarily while developing my account.
From playing for so long, I have an idea on which five-star characters casual players and spenders should invest in that can make their experience in the game better or more interesting.
I explain my choices through artifact farming and character builds that not all players are the most familiar with. For more information about this, I have written a guide on how artifacts work in the game for beginner players.
Zhongli
The first character I would recommend for players to get is Zhongli. I believe the majority of the player base will agree with me that Zhongli is a great character. He has a wide variety of ways to play him and has one of, if not the strongest, shielding ability in the game.
I personally use him as a Burst Support character meaning that his Elemental Burst deals a great amount of damage. Even with this build, he still holds up a pretty good shield which makes him versatile and easy to swap throughout different team compositions.

The great part is that no matter what type of playstyle players decide to build him with, it is pretty easy to do so. His shielding ability is entirely reliant on his HP (Health Points) and this stat is much easier to find in artifacts compared to other stats.
His main artifact sets that boost his abilities typically are domains that are useful for other characters. For a full HP build, Tenacity of the Millelith is the best set for him. Because so many other shielding and healing characters utilize HP similar to Zhongli, this domain is an easy way to farm for multiple characters while building him.
For a Burst Support Zhongli, there are two different paths players could take. The first is a full Emblem of Severed Fate set. This set greatly increases burst damage while also providing some Energy Recharge for the character. This option is greatly suitable for players who want to farm artifacts for multiple characters. Many characters will utilize the full-set to best maximize their builds. It minimizes a player’s need to use their resin in a domain that has artifacts meant for only one or two characters.
The second option can be done more easily for players in the early parts of the game. The domains for Archaic Petra and Noblesse Oblige are some of the first ones that are available for players. The Archaic Petra set can be useful for many Geo support characters but it’s fallen off as a recommended set in the most recent updates.
However, Noblesse Oblige is one of the best support sets. This set as well has fallen off in recent updates but it still stands strong as a good team buffing set. It greatly boosts the Attack of the team after a character’s Elemental Burst has been utilized. For a Burst Support Zhongli, this set is great for boosting his burst damage while also allowing for the team to get a buff from it.
Zhongli is a great five-star character for players to invest in. If there’s a good opportunity, I highly recommend for players to obtain him. He rarely leaves my team compositions and greatly influenced the way I’ve grown and progressed in the game.
Nahida
With the introduction of Dendro in the game, new reactions have developed that greatly changed how players fight in Genshin Impact. The element’s introduction shook the community, and it certainly showed with Nahida’s release.
Nahida is a great Dendro unit who works off-field to apply Dendro for reactions. Not only that, but she is quite easy to build in comparison to other characters. As a pure support character, she has little need for actual critical damage through the usual routes that most damage-outputting characters take. Instead, her build is solely based on Elemental Mastery. The higher the mastery, the better she works in teams.

Although it is possible to build her as a damage dealer, it takes a lot more commitment which may not be suitable for casual players who are just wanting to enjoy the game.
The great part about farming for Nahida is that her set, Deepwood Memories, is the standard Dendro set for any Dendro support character. For players wanting to utilize Dendro reactions, Deepwood Memories is the set to best utilize for them.
Out of all available Dendro characters, I believe Nahida is the best character for applying Dendro, getting reactions, and boosting the team all at once. She is a multi-faceted team member that greatly contributes to combat.
For more casual players who want to limit the amount of time they’re spending on farming and getting characters to make Dendro reactions, Nahida greatly cuts down on that work. Furthermore, her Elemental Skill is handy in that players can collect over-world materials through it. By simply holding her Elemental Skill, Nahida can highlight a certain amount of materials and collect it into the player’s inventory.
Neuvillette
Neuvillette is a newer character in the game, but he stands out amongst the roster of 79 characters. He deals some serious damage even without a lot of commitment. The great part of building his character is that he greatly relies on HP in order to boost his attacks. He is pretty F2P friendly because of this as a damage-dealing unit.

His best set is Marechaussee Hunter which is typically the best set for most of the new characters released in Fontaine. It’s a great set that limits the amount of critical rate players have to build on their units and focus more on critical damage. This rings true for Neuvillette.
It’s also a great domain to farm because it has both a damage-dealing artifact set and a supporter set. The Golden Troupe set that runs alongside it is a great artifact set that works for many characters with off-field damage. Many characters who utilize this set are also great characters to support Neuvillette.
For any players who struggle to go through Spiral Abyss or battle challenges, Neuvillette is a great choice to clear them. He deals a good, consistent amount of damage even with a small amount of effort put into his build. The best part about building him is that even if players aren’t able to get a high amount of critical damage or critical rate for him, his HP bonus can still support him enough to be a good unit.
My progress in Spiral Abyss has greatly improved since I’ve had Neuvillette in my team compositions. I genuinely became so tempted to spend more on investing for Neuvillette’s constellations because they, unbelievably, make him that much stronger of a unit. For casual spenders who are willing to invest in constellations, Neuvillette is one of the units to do so.
Conclusion
At the end of the day, players should invest in whichever characters they resonate with and want to play. However, for players who want recommendations and know how certain characters can impact their game, these three characters are good units for them.
I choose these characters because they are more likely to get rerun in banners which make it easier for players to obtain them. Their builds are friendlier to farm and will definitely lessen the burden for more casual players who want to have artifacts that can be used for more than one character. Each character, for me, has changed the way I’ve played and enjoyed Genshin Impact in my years of playing this game.
