Boss Rush Banter: Let’s Plays Help Maintain My Love of Video Games

So I don’t know about you guys, but I love not playing video games. I joke, but am I though? The thing is, I adore video games, but where do I find the time? There are so many things out now, so many things that are good, and my time to be able to interact with them is incredibly limited. When it comes to my personal time, I struggle. I find myself reaching towards games that have low barriers of entry, and I can easily put them down when real life calls.

Frustrating, but that’s life, isn’t it? I’ll play some card games I can easily load up on my phone, and the rest of the videogame world passes me by. That’s where Let’s Plays come in. Through the Youtube and Twitch streamers I follow, I’m able to engage in games more than I would otherwise. Not only that, I feel more empowered to decide what’s worth my time. Some of my favorite games of 2023 I decided to play because I saw Let’s Plays of them, including Alan Wake II, which was my game of the year. One of my favorite games of all time, Dicey Dungeons, I found because of a Let’s Play. My enduring love of Hollow Knight begain because I watch Dan Floyd of PlayFrame explore the vast caverns of Hollownest.

Like MadPharmacist before me, Let’s Plays are my primary form of entertainment. I used to be a horror game girlie, but these days I like to watch linear RPGs, and strategy games I’m never going to play anyway. I’ve been watching Let’s Plays for a long time, and I’ll probably watch them for longer. I’m thankful that I’m even able to engage in my favorite medium.

Are you a Let’s Play watcher? Who do you watch?  Please share your thoughts with us on our Boss Rush Facebook Group or our Boss Rush Discord.
