It has been done before. I’ve heard about it. Some seasoned tabletop Dungeons and Dragons players who are also Legend of Zelda fans have ran Zelda-themed campaigns. After the smash hit Baldur’s Gate 3, D&D has been on my mind more than ever, and I wonder what my Zelda party would look like if it were to exist!
Let’s go with four members in a party, much like Baldur’s Gate 3–which also falls in line with many tabletop D&D games.
The Fighter
I am a huge fan of the Fighter class. If I don’t play as a Fighter, then someone else in my party has to be one. In this hypothetical, it would be no surprise I would build Link into this class. With Master Sword and Hylian Shield equipped, he is destined to deal massive damage. As his level grows, he can tack on additional actions and even cast a basic cantrip (spell) or two if he felt so inclined. Other than the obvious, Link fits the Fighter because I can’t imagine him with a lot of Charisma skills as a silent protagonist…

The Paladin
The Paladin is a versatile member of the team who can range from their role as a tank to a Healer. No. I will not pick Princess Zelda (it’s a pet peeve of mine when almost every Healer is a female). King Rauru from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom would be the perfect fit as a Paladin. He is skilled in combat, fights in the name of what’s good and righteous, and is more than willing to smite evil out of existence. He can provide healing spells to my party in need as well.

The Warlock
Hear me out on this one. While Princess Zelda has been known be the magic-wielder, I have another class in mind for her. As part of the Kokiri, I would absolutely love to have Saria, the Sage of the Forest Temple be my party’s Warlock. According to D&D 5e, “A warlock is defined by a pact with an otherworldly being”. I can imagine Saria obtaining incredible powers from her patron, the Great Deku Tree. She can wield devastating magic while sporting only light armor and minimal weaponry. Honorable mention: Saria could also wield magic and fight well as a druid.

The Rogue
This is where I would love Princess Zelda to shine. Yes, she can get her Sheik on with her stealthy tactics and snipe from afar or strike from the shadows. While Zelda may not have sheer strength, she has the dexterity and intelligence to outwit her foes and perhaps be one of the most effectives partners in my team. This build would also allow me to give her a Ranger subclass so she can utilize her signature bow and light arrows.
