My time in Eos has come to an end as I wrapped up my journey with Final Fantasy XV.
At the end of the day, to me, this wasn’t a bad game. I didn’t have the anticipation build prior to its release and I’m largely a newcomer to Final Fantasy as a whole. I think I can summarize my experience as a flawed yet enjoyable ride.
I’ve written previously how the cast really shined in this game and that came to a head during the final scenes of the game. When the final moments ended, I was in awe at how much of an emotional punch the ending delivered.

FFXV had a lot of warts and one part of that was the middle act of the story. I thought the game started off intriguing enough but it really ramped up after the events of Altissia. From that point on, you saw how much of an impact the friends had on Noctis.
To me, Final Fantasy XV was a coming-of-age story that dealt with the weight of duty and responsibility along with how good friends can help anyone shoulder the seemingly impossible.
The ending of the game really reflected that especially after Noctis defeats Ardyn. The final acts of Noctis are commendable, but it is the presentation that really drives home the emotion.
Again, I don’t want to spoil too much about the game, but there is a particularly touching moment when Noctis finally vanquishes the evil. It is a moment that shows how far the former wayward prince has come.
Another great moment is the final campfire scene after the credits. Sure, the dialogue might have been corny at times but it did a great job at driving home the emotional impact of the game.
Friendship was the strong thoroughfare of the game and if that wasn’t clear enough, Square Enix smacks you over the head with it in that emotional moment.
One last moment that was emotionally powerful. Seeing the logo change was such a subtle yet cool touch that hit me pretty good.
Look, I’m not saying Final Fantasy XV is a masterpiece. If my time on the Internet has told me anything, it is that many vehemently hate this game and any opinion to the contrary is “part of the problem.”
That said, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game. It was rough around the edges at points, but a solid ending made the game memorable. Final Fantasy does do a good job at nailing narrative moments and presentation even if the rest of the game is uneven.
To me, Final Fantasy XV was a representation of its protagonist Noctis. Imperfect but one that has a fitting end.
