After years of anticipation, BioWare announces they will reveal gameplay footage of the next installment in the Dragon Age franchise. Dragon Age: The Veilguard, previously referred to as Dragon Age: The Dreadwolf, this upcoming single-player RPG promises to immerse fans in a brand-new adventure set in the world of Thedas.
In a blog post earlier today, Gary McKay, Executive Producer of Dragon Age and General Manager of Bioware, extended an invitation for the worldwide unveiling of the first 15 minutes of gameplay footage from The Veilguard. The must-see reveal is set for Tuesday, June 11th at 8am PT on the official Dragon Age YouTube channel.
“We know you’ve been waiting a long time for this,” McKay writes. “We’re so ready to show you what we’ve been up to.”
What BioWare has been laboring on is the next engrossing chapter in their acclaimed fantasy realm. While scant on details about the story and setting, the developers made some tantalizing teases about what to expect from Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
As with previous entries like Origins, Dragon Age 2, and Inquisition, players will step into the role of a new lead protagonist exclusive to this adventure. BioWare promises this mysterious hero will be thrust into an epic conflict that threatens the entirety of Thedas. Aiding them in this fight is a diverse crew of seven companions, each with their own fleshed-out personal narratives.
“The decisions you make will impact your relationships with them – as well as their lives,” BioWare revealed about the companion system. Characters like the nefarious Dread Wolf Solas are also teased to play “an important part” in the story of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. But BioWare stresses the focus will be squarely on the player character’s journey and their companions joining them on this adventure.
It’s a journey that has been a long time in the making. Following the 2014 release of Dragon Age: Inquisition, BioWare embarked on a long period of prototyping and experimentation to determine where to take the series next. This even included flirtations with a multiplayer Dragon Age experience before course-correcting.
“This work, and the amazing support from EA, helped us re-focus on creating an incredible single-player game,” the blog post states, reassuring fans that Dragon Age will remain a curated narrative experience.
Make sure to mark your calendar for June 11th and come back to Boss Rush to hear all about the next installation of Dragon Age.
