After nearly an hour delay, this summer’s Steam Next Fest offered several insights into the highlighted games being offered on Steam. Between now and June 17, all games showcased will be free to download demo through Steam.
Here are the titles that the Boss Rush Staff thinks you should try out:
Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Game
At the top, as my personal choice, Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Game seemed to be a presenter favorite as well, with commentator Froob remarking that he was looking forward to it. Developed by Furniture and Mattress LLC, Arranger touts an aesthetically appealing design and gorgeous palette for a constantly rearranging grid for players to puzzle through.

Fading Skies
Next on the list is Fading Skies, coming out of developer Distant Blue, Fading Skies visually looks like several classic 3D platformer games (Insomniac’s Spyro springs to mind) while advertising the same plot and pace of any modern action-RPG. It follows the story of a young woman named Ryn and her companion dragon as they are tasked with saving their world from imminent collapse.

First Dwarf
Three words for this choice on our list: dwarves and mechs.
First Dwarf, coming to us from Star Drifters, an “immersive action RPG” looks to be a whole bunch of fun with snappy character design and exciting open-world possibilities. Combining survival and exploration elements along with base-building, the gameplay looks fantastic.

The Crimson Diamond
Next on our list is The Crimson Diamond. Developed, published, and designed by Julia Minamata boasts an effortless nostalgic influence for early EGA (Enhanced Graphics Adapter) games, such as The Colonel’s Bequest (Sierra Online) and Catacomb Abyss (SoftDisk). The solo project from Ms. Minamata allows the players to act as “amateur geologist and reluctant detective” Nancy Maple as she investigates the discovery of a massive diamond in the fictional town of Crimson, Ontario.

Veritus
The next game that made our list is Veritus, coming to us from developer Colorgrave, is a top choice. This atmospheric, action RPG looks to provide players with plenty of interactive and well-designed puzzles, as well as memorable, unique characters for hours of enjoyable gameplay.

Lone Fungus II
The last game that made the list is Lone Fungus II, by creator Basti, follows the adventures of the anthropomorphic mushroom hero, Greencap. (Full disclosure: I absolutely love Greencap’s design and find the idea of playing as a super cute mushroom very appealing.) A prequel to the first Lone Fungus game, the single-player side-scroller, Lone Fungus II offers the player appealing graphics, multiple, interconnected levels of puzzle-solving as we follow Greencap as he unites the tribes of mushroom people once again.
