Nintendo embraced its mature side at the most recent Nintendo Direct by announcing two new titles joining its online subscription service.
Nintendo Switch Online now offers a Nintendo 64 M-Rated app that, at this point, has two games: Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Perfect Dark. These games are part of the expansion pass tier of NSO and are separate from the other N64 games.
While there is no indication of this, it’s hard to not speculate that Nintendo plans to bring more titles to this service in the future. The Switch appears to be on its last legs as a successor announcement seems imminent, meaning additional N64 M-rated games would serve as a good tideover.
So, which games would you like to see join the service?
I think the most popular answer will be Conker’s Bad Fur Day. This raunchy title from Rare has been at the top of many lists for an reappearance, but now there is some hope.
There is precedent as Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark are already on the service. I really wouldn’t be surprised to see this one make its way over sooner rather than later.
While many are hoping for Conker’s Bad Fur Day, I’m leaning a different direction. I am a huge professional wrestling fan and would love to see ECW Hardcore Revolution make a return.
In the late ’90s, World Championship Wrestling and the then-World Wrestling Federation were battling for ratings supremacy. This battle extended to video games as each released their fair share of T-rated titles on the N64.
Extreme Championship Wrestling was off in Philadelphia doing its own thing, building a niche but vocal audience. ECW Hardcore Revolution was the first game for the promotion and the first wrestling game to garner an M-rating.
Wrestling had a lot of success on the N64 thanks to games like WWF No Mercy, WCW/nWo Revenge, WWF Wrestlemania 2000, and WWF Attitude.
ECW Hardcore Revolution was not one of them. That said, I think this game would be a welcome sight for wrestling fans as well as fighting game enthusiasts, making a perfect addition.
There are a host of other games that would make welcome additions including the rest of the Turok games, a few South Park games, two Quake games, and many others. The list of M-rated Nintendo 64 games isn’t long but there are plenty of classics that would be welcome additions.
Personally, I would prefer to see games that have been lost to time. Some of those include Mace: The Dark Age, Forsaken, Shadow Man, and other similar titles.
