With every new The Legend of Zelda game or trailer we are programmed to speculate and dissect every aspect of what is presented in front of us and create are own legends in our head and place them on our timeline of the hero. The trailer shown at the June Nintendo Direct is no different. So, of course I have my own wild theory of what could be happening to the land of Hyrule.
The trailer begins with a hooded figure fighting enemies and surprise its Link as he removes his hooded cloak. We see Ganon and Link classically fights him in a short joust. Ganon falls and his trident flies and lands close to our hero. We see Zelda trapped in what I can only describe as a pink rupee. From the staff we see a black and purple tear and it grows and swallows Link, but before he disappears, he lofts an arrow towards Zelda and cracks her pink rupee prison, saving her from harm. We know that Zelda must save Hyrule this time, but where did Link and the other Hylians drift off too?
So, speculation of this game based on locations we see in the trailer we can place this game in the hero is defeated timeline which starts with A Link to the Past. And we know that A Link Between Worlds would be included in this timeline as well as Links Awakening. So, what is the link between these games and that of Echoes of Wisdom? Well, besides locations similar between the games we can connect this game with the Link’s Awakening art style.
What if, when Link and the Hylians disappear in these rifts, they fall into a deep sleep and because of this they have lucid nightmare like dreams. While Zelda is on her own adventure what if Link is now fighting to awaken from that of Koholint Island. Could all the inhabitants of Hyrule be transported to this dreamscape and be cursed until either Link or Zelda saves them. The thought occurred to me that the rift is the storm in which Link passes through until he ends up on the island, things seem familiar, but out of place and maybe its because the islands inhabitants all have Hyrule in common. Is every living thing that is swallowed up by the rifts made into a character on the mysterious island?
Though this is a fun theory and does not fully tie all the knots together, I still love to speculate all things, Zelda. What are your thoughts with where the direction of the 2D Zelda games are going? Are you excited that Zelda is the protagonist this time around? Tell us your theories about the next Legend of Zelda game.
