I’ve been waiting for even a taste of this indie RPG adventure since the trailer first came out, and now that the demo is available, I can truly say that my inner child has gone full chaos gremlin for it.

Of course, the game’s missing some textures. If you want curly hair, the designs are pretty laughable at the moment, and as a person who is about 90% freckles at the height of summer, I’m a bit disappointed in their high intensity freckle mode, but even a post-character design crash and an invisible/unusable mirror can’t dampen the wonder of being the Baba Jaga’s apprentice.

There are two side quests, two problem solving interactions, and a whole lot of items to find throughout the demo. You can make friends with deer, trade berries with little hopping wooden spirits, and build your own chicken-legged house as you basically play through the tutorial.

While the biggest downside is an inability to save, you can speedrun the side quests and interactions within 15-20 minutes, and each time I’ve played through, I’ve found new items.

Use the Baga Jaga’s birds to collect items. Cleanse graves, enthrall a magic mirror, and collect cats for as long or short as you want in this demo, building ridiculous houses on a giant chicken’s back.

The heat has me already desperate for autumn, but playing Reka had me going full Halloween-mode, and I’m not coming back.
