Bungie’s classic sci-fi first person shooter series, Marathon, is available, in full, on Steam. These editions are not the raw releases from the mid-1990s, but the faithful versions of the game shepherded by the Aleph One Developers: they work out of the box on modern hardware, with a suite of more modern graphics options. Marathon Infinity is available now, completing the series.
This release offers support for widescreen HUDs, 3D filtering, positional audio, and 60+fps interpolation. Additionally, this release preserves the originals’ online mulitplayer.
While updated and posted by a team of fans, these are de facto the official modern release of the Infinity trilogy, produced and available with the full support of Bungie.
“We’re very supportive of the Marathon community and Aleph One’s dedication here to bring the original Marathon to PC, Linux, and Mac for everyone to experience, with cross-platform play available in multiplayer,” said Bungie in a previous statement. “This is a true tribute to the original game!”
You can download all three games for free, including optional free DLC like multiplayer maps and the Xbox Live textures for Marathon 2, on Steam.
