I had the pleasure of speaking with Bugs and Spider Ray, the two founders of Disordered Media, the developer behind >one way.

This husband-and-wife duo set out to collaborate with friends to create a delightfully horrifying video game based off the world wide web! >one way is a single player, first person experience with frame-by-frame animated cutscenes, immersive 3D environment, and fully voiced dialogue. The creators drew inspiration from internet culture, especially from the 90s and early 2000s. And as we all know, the internet is full of the wonderful…and also the terrifying.
They explained that <one way is set up for you to explore various rooms based off several characters in order to uncover what happened to UNTITLED.EXE and its developers. The characters are well-designed with distinct personalities and musical themes: Mikey, Anita, Spiderface, Meaty, Kitty, Ophelia, Billie, and Fiona.

In the demo, I chose Anita, and chills immediately shot up my spine as I entered a deceptively cheerful room. The walls were pink and bright, but things soon took a morbid turn in a game of hangman. After a few morbid puzzles later, I was able to escape the room, but not before an eerie cut scene. The overall experience had a very light Five Nights at Freddy‘s feeling as I peeled back the layers of Anita’s “story”.

PAX West 2024 is <one way‘s debut event, and Bugs and Spider were thrilled at the turnout. When I was at the booth, there was a perpetual line to check the game out. They are also preparing the launch a Kickstarter, so please keep an eye out for when that launches.
All in all, <one way is still early in development, but based off the demo, Disordered Media is off to one heck of a start. Please be sure to wishlist them on Steam and also follow them on socials:
Check out the trailer, too!
I want to thank Bugs, Spider, and the rest of the Disordered Media team for taking the time to speak with me and letting me play the demo of <one way!
