Introduction
Satryn DX is a simplistic looking, sprite-based, twin-stick arcade shooter much akin to early arcade style games such as Asteroids.
Synopsis
Fight wave after wave of increasingly more intricate and chaotic enemies as you try and save the survivors.
Analysis
Learn to master the art of twin-stick shooting while you artfully dodge the waves of everchanging enemies and push the limits of your skill and speed as you try and obtain a high score.
The Gameplay
Satryn DX has bold, but simplistic color visuals that stick out when trying to avoid the waves of enemies in which you will undoubtedly encounter the father you go into the game. With this visual style, it helps you see the difference between the power ups, the enemies, and the civilians. You still must be quick though to maintain a high score.
The main goal is to achieve a high score and you must do this by taking out the waves of enemies with an 8 directional footprint. Every enemy, or what the game manual calls Denizens, you encounter is added to a digital manual in the game that describes them as well as the attack patterns, allowing you to further your knowledge to defeat them in your future playthroughs. It also has counter under that enemy that shows how many you have slain.
What will help you achieve better runs is by finding power ups to animate things more proficiently. These powerups appear after every 75,000 points made. There are ten in total to obtain. The other way to get farther into a run would be to save your friends you see on the field by going over them. By saving them and upon reaching 60 you will receive an extra life.
The options allow you to adjust if you want to have auto shoot or manual, allow objects you collect to appear shiny, allow friend hats, change the photo sensitivity, and camara motion stability. The options seem really well thought out for people with differently playstyle needs.
Each run when you finally have lost will show your score and the option to send the score to an online leaderboard. Type your initials and hit send to share your accomplishments. It will then generate a QR code that will bring you to the leaderboard to view the top scores. This feature is a great way to see how you fair against others and push you to do better if you are competitive.
Final Score
Satryn DX is a great arcade shooter, that has simplistic graphics and back story elements. It uses a tried and true method for its arcade style combat and tosses in some great music and sound effects while treating us to the extra online scoreboard. If you are competitive and like arcade or twin-stick shooters you will most likely enjoy what this game has to offer the players.
Though the game has many positive aspects, the way you need to access the online scores could have been added as a menu on the game instead of the QR code access method. Besides this one flaw in my opinion the game play is fun and the quality overall is abundant.
