Known all over the world for her brain-scratching needle-felted animations, creative director Andrea Love and Wooly Studios will reveal an early look at the visuals and gameplay of their debut project, FELTOPIA at PAX West 2024.
FELTOPIA is a cozy take on arcade side-scrollers, set in a hand-felted wooly world brought to life with stop-motion animation.
Sky is a magical sheep herder who must harness their growing powers to save the Rainbow Flock and purge an insidious Smog Spirit that is engulfing the land in darkness.
PAX West is the studio’s first major public appearance and is an opportunity for players to play this one-of-a-kind demo and see behind-the-scenes footage of how this magical world was created. Look for Wooly Games at Booth 1315.
“Felt animation has made its way into TV and film, but it has not entered the game world that I know of. We realized there was a gap in the market for this type of aesthetic, and decided to fill it. Wool lends itself really well to the natural world, so I knew I wanted to create a game with sweeping landscapes and lots of elemental effects. The classic side scroller mechanics mixed with our hand-felted, stopmotion techniques gives Feltopia both a novel and nostalgic feeling, which is a balance I like to hit with my animation work. Our goal is to take a typically violent genre and invert it so it is about transformation and healing rather than destruction and death.”

The game has been in production since 2023, with an expected release on STEAM in mid-2026, and additional platforms to follow depending on funding and/or publisher support.
