Reportedly Abandoned by Humble Games, Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus Developers Seek Patreon Support

2–3 minutes

Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus was developed by Squid Shock Studios and published by Humble Games. Humble Games recently underwent what was called a “restructuring,” but allegedly amounted to such extensive layoffs that the publisher could no longer perform its basic duties, and Bo was left without post-launch support.

“It has been a hectic two weeks since we launched our first game, Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus…” Squid Shock Studios said in a statement. “Our launch was not without its challenges. Our publisher shutting down has meant we have missed out on critical post-launch support, which may put our studio’s future at risk.”

“On July 25th, we lost access to the pipeline of critical systems without warning,” Squid Shock continued. “We can currently only manage the game on Steam, and we were able to push an update this week. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for consoles. Porting and QA support was tied into our deal with our publisher, and at the time of writing we still do not have that pipeline restored. However, steps are finally being taken to restore access.”

After “exploring every possible option to deliver the future content we had planned,” the team created a Patreon account.

Tiers of membership range between a Seedling option at $1 per month, giving players access to Patreon updates and posts, and Discord access. Membership ranges upward from there, giving players progressively more access to further development of the game.

At time of writing, Squid Shock Studios has 24 paid members on its Patreon. Recently, the team has shared additional part, patch notes for an upcoming version, and asking players if they would like health bars added for bosses.
