Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 eschews some of the most harmful trends in gaming today: it releases without DRM (particularly Denuvo), meaning that you actually own your game on PC. Ten, twenty years from now, no matter the state of the DRM or central servers, you can still play the game. Moreover, all future in-game material, from missions to features, will be released for free. Cosmetics are the only paid DLC.
This is wonderful! This is exactly the payment model all games should have! It not only respects your money, but your time: no additional charges for the gameplay, no battlepasses to grind, no premium currency. You are freed to explore the game at your own pace, without needing to worry about “keeping up” with the playerbase or being priced out of the game you already bought.
It is only you, and the game you paid for.
With recent 2K Games sports informing you that the game you bought will only be playable for two years from time of release, a game that will remain playable forever is refreshing, and a reminder of how this medium should operate.
