A sequel to Alien: Isolation is in development from Creative Assembly and SEGA. The game was announced to coincide with the original game’s 10th anniversary.
“Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is in early development,” wrote Alistair Hope, Creative Director on Alien: Isolation. “We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.”
Hope served as Creative Director on the first game, and seems to be resuming the position for the sequel. There is no word on other returning creators at this time, including Dan Abnett, the scriptwriter who made Alien: Isolation‘s story into what we recognize as Alien: Isolation as he radically reworked the story in the final stretch before launch.
“Our return to the survival-horror genre alongside in-development titles across Fantasy and Historical [Total War] marks a new chapter for all of us at CA and we can’t wait to share more with you in the future. Until then, keep an eye out for more exciting WARHAMMER III content,” wrote an unnamed Creative Assembly staff member in a statement.
This “new chapter” greatly resembles the company’s critical and creative height in the early 2010s, a period that saw the release of Total War: Shogun 2, Alien: Isolation, and the start of Total War: Warhammer. This marked a similar linking of survival horror, and fantasy and historical Total War games.
This news follows on the heels of a number of ups and downs for the Sussex studio: the massive launch of Total War: Warhammer III, the state of which lead to player protest, a studio apology, and a change to DLC and patch practices; the cancelation of Hyenas, a live-service shooter which was the subject of confusion and mockery; the backlash against Total War: Pharaoh‘s small size for the price, which led to the game being expanded into a full-fledged entry in the series; the announcement of Total War: Star Wars, and two other entries in the series.
The sequel to Alien: Isolation is in early development, with no release date announced.
