ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game‘s second edition is now called the Evolved Edition (E2) to clarify that it is an expansion and evolution rather than a new, incompatible game. Free League Publishing’s game will incorporate settings, spacecraft, and gear from Alien Romulus.
Players can visit Jackson’s Star in an in-depth exploration of the colony. Players may arm themselves with F44AA Pulse Rifle, and pilot the USCSS Corbelan IV mining haulers.
The book includes a new pulse rifle illustration from John Mullaney, and artwork of Jackson’s Star from Col Price, one of the concept artists who designed colony.
The new edition’s rules are based on feedback from players. The Kickstarter for the new edition was delayed until Spring 2025. According to Free League Publishing, this was done so the developers can collect and include more feedback.
“Since the news broke at Gen Con,” said a Free League Publishing spokesperson, “more fans continue to share suggestions and support for the updated rules, which has only inspired the design team to deliver what players want and ensure that the Evolved Edition is bursting with all fans want to see. In fact, the updated rules are largely based upon feedback from thousands of players over the past five years and counting.”
The E2 edition’s starter set has been redesigned with new gamers in mind, containing an abridged version of the E2 rules, character sheets, custom dice, reference cards, handouts, and an expanded version of the Hope’s Last Day scenario. The contents are broadly similar to the current starter set’s.
ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game Evolved Edition‘s new cinematic scenario boxed set, Rapture Protocol, “returns to the roots of the ALIEN franchise, following the crew of a small star freighter on a resupply run to the remote industrial colony, soon embroiled in a deadly conflict.”
The new miniature line is designed with Rapture Protocol in mind, while all miniatures are fully compatible with other adventures. The miniatures are in the heroic scale, which refers to their proportions.
True scale models are designed to be a perfectly accurate representation of the subject, simply scaled down to fit into the palm of your hand; this is more common in historical and quasi-historical games. Heroic scale models are exaggerated, with larger bodies and gear, designed to emphasize fine detail, action, and character; this is more common in fantasy, sci-fi, and character-focused games. Many claim that heroic scale miniatures are easier to paint, due to their proportions and emphasized detail.
The ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game Evolved Edition is now scheduled to reach Kickstarter in Spring 2025, with a full retail release the following Autumn.
