Nintendo has officially slotted The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom into the timeline, placing it in the branch following the defeat of the hero, colloquially known as the Decline Timeline. Specifically, it takes place between Tri Force Heroes and The Legend of Zelda (NES).

This update came via an announcement by the official Japanese The Legend of Zelda account on X (formerly known as Twitter) on November 25.
This comes at the heels of much fan speculation as to the likeliest spot for Echoes of Wisdom to wind up, or if it would be kept out of the timeline altogether as were Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Some fans, such as Boss Rush’s Josh Martinez, think the timeline causes more headaches than it is worth.
Many fans speculated the Decline Timeline made the most sense, as it contains A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds, with which Echoes of Wisdom shares an overworld. The specific placement as the last game before the decline of Hyrule Kingdom will validate many theories held by fans that thought Echoes of Wisdom held proof of this decline.

As of writing, the English website timeline has not been updated.
