Baldur’s Gate 3 will receive at least one more major, content-heavy patch which will include cross-play, a photo mode, and the addition of 12 new subclasses. Patch #8 will arrive some time next year.
Cross-Play
The patch will bring full cross-play to Baldur’s Gate 3. Players on different consoles, or on PC, will be able to enjoy a multiplayer campaign with one another. Additionally, players will be able to transfer saves from one console to another.

Photo Mode
Players will soon be able to take glamour shots across Faerûn, as a photo mode is included with the update. The mode is accessed from the HUD at any time the minimap is accessible. Players will have a number of tools to refine their photos.
- Choose a character to focus on, including NPCs, summons, and Wild Shaped characters in the party.
- Camera reticle and composition grid tools to aid in shot composition.
- Lens settings including Field of View, Exposure, Depth of Field, and Focus.
- Toggle off members of your party you would rather exclude from the shot.
- Set facial expressions.
- Over 40 poses, both static and animated, to assign to your party members.
- Post-processing effects including contrast, saturation, highlights, brightness, and vignette.
- Frames and stickers that can be added to the completed photo.

Subclasses
Patch 8 will include the addition of 12 new subclasses, one for each class. In addition to new rules that alter the way you play, these subclasses will also include new spells, as well as additional animations and visual effects. Additionally Oathbreakers will receive new reactivity, and new voiced lines will be added to the Oathbreaker Knight.
Here is a list of new subclasses for each class.
- Bard – College of Glamour: Gain the power of influence, as you heal your allies and command your foes, using abilities such as Charmed, Mantle of Inspiration, and Mantle of Majesty.
- Barbarian – Path of the Giants: Imbue yourself with the strength of a giant, giving you access to Giant’s Rage, which will increase your strength and size, with increased carrying capacity and the ability to deal additional damage on Throw attacks.
- Cleric – Death Domain: Weaponize mortality itself as you gain access to a number of new death-related cantrips, such as Toll the Dead, and gain the ability to explode nearby corpses.
- Druid – Circle of Stars: Gain the ability to take on a Starry Form, choosing from the constellations of the Archer, Chalice, and Dragon. Each form alters the way you play, improving your healing, increasing your damage, or improving your strategic options with celestial arrows.
- Paladin – Oath of the Crown: Uphold the rule of law, and buff your allies or debuff your foes, with abilities such as Righteous Clarity and Divine Allegiance. Influence the battle by protecting your allies with damage absorption, and hindering your enemies with taunts.
- Fighter – Arcane Archer: Imbue your arrows with magic and grant magical effects to your arrows. Temporarily banish enemies from the battlefield, inflict psychic blindness, and more, from a safe distance with your bow.
- Monk – Drunken Master: Master the art of the drunken fist as you use alcohol to recover your ki, and use abilities such as Intoxicating Strike and Sobering Realization to alter the sobriety of your enemies.
- Ranger – Swarmkeeper: Become the master of a swarm of creatures as you gain access to abilities such as Cloud of Jellyfish, Flurry of Moths, and Legion of Bees. Each swarm can inflict different types of damage and status effects, and provide the player with teleportation.
- Rogue – Swashbuckler: Embrace the pirate’s life as you throw dirt in your enemy’s eyes, render them harmless with Disarm, and use Fancy Footwork to flee battle without being attacked in return. The Swashbuckler class allows rogues to become the ultimate hit-and-run warriors.
- Sorcerer – Shadow Magic: Gain mastery of the dark as you become significantly more powerful in areas of darkness, with abilities such as Superior Darkvision and Shadow Walk. The darkness will also allow you to summon a Hound of Ill Omen to aid you, and allies in the dark can be protected from unconsciousness with Strength of the Grave.
- Warlock – Hexblade: Form a pact with a being from the Shadowfell, and enter combat with a magical weapon that allows the Warlock to enter the fray. The pact grants a bevy of new abilites, such as cursing your enemies into following your commands, or raising the spirit of a slain enemy.
- WIZARD – Bladesinging: Your wizard will be proficient in swinging a sword as well as slinging spells, as the Bladesong ability grants bonuses to speed, agility, focus, and constitution saves. It is time for the wizard to leave the backlines.
As is the case with the base game classes and subclasses, these new subclasses may be altered from their textbook form in Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition to suit the game better.

Stress Testing
Larian will allow players to experience the patch early for the sake of stress testing, allowing them to look for bugs and issues before release. The stress test will be open to players on all platforms, and will include testing crossplay. Those interested in taking part in the stress test should keep an eye on Larian’s social media, as directions for registering will be included in Community Update #31.

This content-heavy patch will release some time in 2025, and will give fans of the behemoth RPG more content to chew on as Larian begins to wind down on additional content and their focus moves to future projects.
The full details of the update can be read here.
