We’re back with the final episode of Misfits and Magic! Season two has been a wild ride, meeting adorable and terrifying monsters as well as introducing the foundations of Aabria’s magical world. Though the Dropout store shows no signs of getting those incredible character trackers, I still have my heart set on a mythical plushes, especially of the adorable Miskoro who stole all our hearts last week.

We enter the dome, and Sam is face-to-face with the Qohlye and absolutely alone. Their conversation veers off course. When the Qohlye stands firm, calling Sam out and demanding more of her, she breaks down, fearfully proclaiming that she’s the one in the group that knows nothing. The moment where the Qohlye reveals he’s reversed time and had this same conversation with same multiple times before felt like it should’ve been a bigger mic drop. While Sam does use it as a jumping point to argue why it shouldn’t have been her, the reality remains that it isn’t anybody else.

Breaking down her magic broom and selfie stick, Sam realizes she needs to do what remains to be done. The Qohlye laments Sam’s poor self-esteem, but he pushes her to put her faith in herself. He succeeds with Terminator references. Sam is John Connor. With that, she rejoins her friends.

The group enters the cistern for a second time. Jammer takes Tabby out of the bag. Sorting through her new memory, Sam discovers that every time they’ve put Tabby in the wall, things have gone awry. Two of the times, Tabby killed them. In the last time, Tabby convinced them to fix the system. When Sam tells Jammer to put the tablet back in the bag, Evan backs her up while Tabby tries to drag Jammer to his side through their mental connection; however, Jammer refuses, comforting Tabby while encouraging change.

As Sam reveals the Qohlye situation, Evan spies Bombini. He immediately pursues, and K helps. As they trust in Sam, clapping for her, Evan recalls their previous fights, and Bombini turns on them, attacking the two. Sam calls out. As she draws his attention to her, Sam commands him to put his wand down. Unfortunately, Bombini knocks away her spell.

Jammer manages to access his past timelines’ memories, discovering they’ve never succeeded in convincing Bombini to help them. Sam weaves her shadow and self together, spreading it out from herself toward Bombini as she charms him. As her shadow dissipates, the group discovers they’re on the set of Britain’s Got Magic.

Jamie, Sam’s producer, berates her, confessing that he found her exhausting and preferred to have Tony Danza host the show from now on. However, while he talks to Sam, trying to kick her off the set, Evan spin kicks him, breaking Jamie’s bones. Evan and Jammer race off to find Bombini, who is listed to be with craft services, while Sam summons T2 as Jamie screams. Sam takes his walkie-talkie, but things go south as Jamie dies as the situation ramps up like St. Dotto’s.

Reacting as badly as ever to the amplifying magic, Evan goes top dog on Tony Danza as Jammer veers off into a weird set piece that looks uncannily like his childhood home. Finding hats, he grabs them, sticking them on before putting them on and chasing after Evan. He discovers him. Evan has torn Danza’s spine from his body, using it as a whip as he chases down Bombini until Jammer finds him, drawing him into a hug as the amplification threatens to overwhelm our favorite Kelmp.

As bullets fly, Sam and K reunite with the boys, ending up in the black-taped room. The group pushes that they would’ve been there, and Evan startles as he realizes they mean it. Panicking, Sam rushes toward craft, but the environment shifts, leading them into a cityscape. K goes full St. Dotto: Part 2.

When that inevitably collapses, our misfits end up on Fire Island 2 where Fergus reappears. He and a crew of alt version of Jammer, K, and Evan challenge the original Pilot Program to Death Scuppers.

With his wings, Jammer absolutely dominates. Fergus tries to psyche out Sam. During her confrontation, she shouts that nobody likes her, pummeling him. While she does so, K convinces her other version to bow out due to her love and friendship with Sam. Similarly, Evan goes to comfort Sam, saying that people don’t need to be useful to love others but need to be present.

While he does, the other Evan steals his Tome of Nibble Workings. Desperate to stay with Sam but terrified of what his other self could do, Evan connects mentally to speak with her in a fraction of a section, revealing his intention to potentially become a vigilante if they ever left. Unfortunately, the other Evan gives them no time to confront the emotional breakdown.

As they push forward, battling their way to the creation of a new system, they make artwork magic, ensuring incredible works of magic take time and effort bit by bit as perspective and kindness guide them all.

Getting a push from his shadow, Evan confesses that he just wants to be with Sam, professing his love while nervously dancing around the type as he fears pressuring her. Sam offers tacos, mentioning she has a working stove and will make him a key.

While they talk, Jammer and K cheer them on, and T2 goes to speak with them only to be caught by Evan, freaking out the whole group. However, in the middle of their freak out, the group goes to Dr. Boodle, revealing that his plan failed. The group heads to Nando’s.

Highlights

My love for the Sam and Evan friendship this season knows no bounds. Did I at some points think it would be sweet if they explored a different sort of relationship between them? Yes, but that was just a bonus. That was a beautiful, beautiful bonus. The wholesome beauty of their mutual support throughout absolutely warmed my heart, and to have Evan confront himself with the utility of being loved and simply be there for Sam was the perfect full circle moment for all the comfort and care that Sam has shown him this season.

He gets her to laugh by pointing out her real last name has butt in it. His support helps her confront her Imposter Syndrome. Unfortunately, he also worsens it by bringing up the Weugan spell, but friendship (especially if it turns into romance) is a mix of good and bad.

Final Score (4.5 out of 5 Stars)

This was absolute insanity. Aabria did an incredible job throughout this series, making sense of chaos, but the finale did go a bit off the rails, giving Never Stop Blowing Up! a run for its money. While Dimension 20 leans into the comedy, making those drama moments hit all the harder, there seems to be a habit forming of pacing goes double time in the finale which causes the ending to feel rushed.

That being said, questions are answered. Check boxes are ticked. Characters all have their cathartic moments, facing their revelations. Sam and Evan have their small moments happily ever after, growing together and having someone to share their true selves with as Jammer pursues what he wants by switching to social working and teaching kids magic. K works on intentionality. She still yearns to travel, but they allow themselves to connect and pursue a similar kindness as Jammer. Both K and Jammer make weekly trips to visit Sam and Evan.

Aabria ends with a forewarning, and foreshadowing, of a potential global conflict which may just be season three of Misfits and Magic. Fingers crossed that’s the case!
