PlayStation’s first State of Play of 2025 gave us a look at many diverse titles set to release in the coming year. Many of the announcements were accompanied by dazzling, cinematic trailers, but Tides of Annihilation stood out, as it managed to match the visual and technical polish of other AAA showcases despite being an original IP from a brand-new studio.
The announcement trailer for this debut title from Eclipse Glow Games introduces us to the player character Gwendolyn, one of the few survivors of an apocalypse-level catastrophe that has left modern-day London in ruins. The exact nature of the disaster is unclear, but it appears to be related to Arthurian legend, with the Knights of the Round Table playing a central role.

The announcement trailer downplayed gameplay in favor of mood-setting cinematic shots, but what little gameplay we did see showed much potential.
While the ruined western fantasy setting would not be out of place in a souls-like game, the combat appears to be much closer to a character action game in the same vein as Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. We see the player frantically dodging through a wide variety of over-the-top enemy attacks while setting up their own crazy combos with summoned spectral knights. Eclipse Glow Games has confirmed in an official blog post that these knights are the ghosts of King Arthur’s Knights of the Round Table, and they will be at the core of Tides of Annihilation’s combat.
Another aspect of gameplay that we glimpse in the trailer is colossal knight encounters. Echoing Shadow of the Colossus, these gameplay sections appear to be traversal-based setpieces, challenging the player to maneuver their way to the top of a skyscraper-sized foe and deliver a killing blow. It is unclear from the trailer how scripted these sequences will be, but if done well they could easily become the highlight of the game.

The overall impression left by the trailer is one of spectacle. The combat looks flashy and fun, the setpieces look massive, and the narrative promises many twists and turns as the mystery of the medieval cataclysm unfolds.
The trailer did not include a release date, but the developers stated in an interview with Wccftech that the tentative launch window is 2026.
The trailer ended with an announcement that more gameplay footage would be released on February 13th. At time of writing, this footage has not yet been released, but we will update this article with analysis of the footage when it is.
So, what do you think? Will Tides of Annihilation deliver on its promises? Are there any gameplay features or story beats that you hope will be included? Sound off in the comments below, or head on over to our Discord to share your thoughts.
