I have been a Marvel Fan for many years, and I am always delighted to consume different types of mediums utilizing all the different characters and stories that have been created over the years. I loved playing X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse on my SNES, reading various Avengers comics, and watching every single Spider-Man in theaters since Tobey Maguire. All these crossovers keep my excitement at a healthy level, but what could be next?
We have seen it before in games such as the Batman Arkham Series where it takes a beloved character and creates an open world to govern and fix. The formula has varied over time, but that sense and feeling of heroism in a dark and toxic overworld makes it feel justified as you clear its streets of villainous scum. These elements when paired correctly to the right character could elevate the franchise and overall IP, making it one step closer to a household name. So, who could be next?
If you have been playing games made by Insomniac such as the Spider-Man games, you know that it is possible to create an amazing experience for the fans. Insomniac also has Wolverine slated to come out next that has a similar vibe to the Batman and Spider-Man formulas. I am hoping it is successful in creating that experience for the fans. In the meantime, after recently watching the new Disney Plus show Daredevil: Born Again, I have never been more certain of a marriage between this formula and the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.
The story of Matt Murdock as a blind daytime Lawyer and an afterhours peacekeeper would make an amazing story and add some new elements to the mix. The fact that you can work as a lawyer during that day trying to keep criminals behind bars would play into your after dark work. The thought of gathering evidence and then using it in court could change outcomes of the story. Say you either successfully or unsuccessfully preformed an action in court and now at night you must deal with the consequences of those actions. Use your heighten senses to track people and obtain knowledge to help in your cases. Could we see a team up with Spiderman or a scuffle with Bullseye or perhaps Kingpin?
I’m sure there are plenty of characters who would fit or deserve this treatment, but I feel that Daredevil has all the right elements and is an interesting enough character to create an amazing and enriched world that the players could explore. What character or characters have the potential to have a game that would sustain this type of experience? Have you played any of Insomniac’s games before? What’s your favorite stories in the Marvel and DC worlds? Let us know your thoughts on this topic.
