Even though we are days away from the Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo just premiered a Direct with a focus on a roadmap of Nintendo Switch titles. We were flooded with lots of new information and juicy details–including some interesting non-gaming news.
Nintendo Introduces the Virtual Game Card

Mid-presentation, Nintendo introduced a new concept in hopes it would further refine the digital gaming experience with Virtual Game Card. As the name may imply, digital games will behave much like a physical cartridge.
When purchasing digital games on the Nintendo Switch, it will load as a Virtual Game Card. The games will line up on a digital management screen where you can load, eject, and manage. You can even eject the game from one Nintendo Switch and “load” into a second system whenever and wherever. This feature accommodates up to two systems, and local communication is required the first time. The presentation indicated that internet connection is only required when loading or ejecting a Virtual Game Card.

Another feature is that you can lend your game to your Nintendo Account family members via local wireless. You can lend one game at a time, and the loan will last for 2 weeks, after which, the game is returned automatically.

The new Virtual Game Card feature will be Added via system update late April 2025.
Is this a hint of more enhancements to better the Nintendo digital experience for the Switch 2? Maybe. We will find out soon.
