“Find the beauty in terror” –Mr. Okamoto
The March 13th Silent Hill Transmission was hosted by Chihiro Yoshizaki and producer, Motoi Okamoto. Throughout the presentation, they are joined by key guests and dissected some key elements when it came to creating the latest installment in the Silent Hill franchise, Silent Hill f.

Silent Hill f will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC although no release date was provided.

Silent Hill f will take place in a fictional Japanese rural town in the 1960s. Mr. Okamoto explained that the story’s theme revolves around finding beauty in terror. Throughout this Transmission, Mr. Okamoto explained that Silent Hill is a franchise that blends both western and Japanese horror; however, he felt the Japanese influence was fading. So, this time, he leaned heavily into Japanese identity.
Scriptwriter, Ryukishi07, joined the conversation to explain his role in the game. Ryukishi07 is a horror author in Japan, and Konami believed he would be a perfect fit–not only because he’s a huge fan of Silent Hill, but he also would ensure Silent Hill f would be the pure embodiment of a Japanese horror game. Unlike “western” horror, there is a link between horror and beauty in Japanese storytelling, which can be incredibly unsettling. Therefore, Ryukishi07 has written a script that follows a young girl named Shimizu Hinako, who needs to make a beautiful yet terrifying decision after a fog takes over and transforms her town.

Ryukishi07 initially expressed challenges with coming up with a script since this title wouldn’t take place in the literal town of Silent Hill like in previous games. Therefore, he leaned on the concept of Silent Hill, which is, characters struggling with the evil within themselves and exploring the gateway to psychological battles within the human mind. Following Ryukishi07, they displayed comments from the creatures and character designer, kera:

Akira Yamaoka, composer for Silent Hill, returns. This time, he was put in charge of music for the Fog World (versus Other World in other games). His mindset for creating music for Silent Hill f is to incorporate Japanese-style sounds/music while attempting to still capture worldwide appeal.
The Silent Hill Transmission continued to explore how Silent Hill f fits into the franchise. The team explained that it will be an independent story. This way, existing and players new to the series can enjoy it; however, Mr. Okamoto hinted that there will be lots of easter eggs. In summary, the team seemed excited about the mysteries we are sure to encounter.

Host Chihiro wrapped up the Transmission by asking some core questions fans may have:
What did you take extra care with during the creation of this game? Mr. Mr. Okamoto stated that during development, there was a lot of focus on music and visual component. It was important to blend these factors together. (e.g. beautiful music in a terrifying moment or vice versa). Mr. Yamaoka stated that he challenged his own identity when it came to designing sound for Silent Hill f.
Share one thing that carries a tradition from the Silent Hill franchise: Mr. Mr. Okamoto focused his response on the monster design, as it will continue the tradition of how they infiltrate players’ psyche. Ryukishi07 continued that there is also importance in holding the player in suspense–the protagonist doesn’t know what is going on, and the moment of understanding is core of a Silent Hill game.
As the Silent Hill Transmission wrapped up, the team promised more information in the future.
