Nintendo hosted a brief, live Direct focusing on their next major IP release: Donkey Kong Bananza. In addition to revealing a child-version of Pauline as your companion and reviewing various gameplay, Nintendo announced important amiibo news.

Firstly, Nintendo is releasing a Donkey Kong and Pauline amiibo the same day as Donkey Kong Bananza. When scanned, you will obtain a special outfit for Pauline that will provide buffs in the game.

If you scan any other Donkey Kong related amiibo (including the wrist bands from Super Nintendo World), you will obtain explosive KONG tiles to hurl at enemies and obstacles.

And that’s still not all. All amiibo released until now–even those not related to the DK franchise–will be scannable. Each scan will drop “giant spheres”, and according to the trailer, they seem to provide various perks such as creating solid surfaces to walk and climb on top of lava.

It appears that Nintendo has no plans to phase out amiibo at this point.
Donkey Kong Banaza will release July 17th for the Nintendo Switch 2. If you have fifteen minutes, check out the Nintendo Direct covering the game to learn more about it:
