Amazon MGM Studios is adapting the Wolfenstein IP into a television series according to a new report from Variety.

According to the report, Patrick Somerville—known for Station Eleven and Maniac—will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the series. He’ll be joined by Fallout executive producers James Altman, Jonah Nolan, Lisa Joy, and Athena Wickham, with MachineGames’ Jerk Gustafsson also on board. Given the massive success of Fallout, it’s no surprise that Bethesda is partnering with Amazon again to adapt another of its flagship franchises.
This isn’t Amazon’s first venture into alternate history World War II—one of Prime Video’s earliest major series was The Man in the High Castle, based on Philip K. Dick’s 1962 novel, set in a world where the Axis powers won the war and split the United States between Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.
Plot details remain under wraps, but the series appears likely to draw inspiration from MachineGames’ modern Wolfenstein titles, beginning with The New Order.
The long-running game franchise follows American soldier B.J. Blazkowicz as he joins a scrappy resistance to overthrow a Nazi regime in an alternate history where Germany won World War II. A cornerstone of the first-person shooter genre, Wolfenstein has released 14 titles since its 1981 debut. A third mainline entry in MachineGames’ modern trilogy has long been rumored, though its development status remains unclear—especially following the studio’s recent success with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and the imminent release of its DLC, Order of Giants.
The series joins Amazon’s expanding lineup of video game adaptations, which includes Fallout, Mass Effect, God of War, and Warhammer 40,000.
You can play the entire run of MachineGames’ Wolfenstein series on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC, with Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and Wolfenstein: Youngbloods also available on Nintendo Switch.
