Boss Rush Banter: Should Link Talk in The Legend of Zelda Movie and If Not How Would That Work?

The Legend of Zelda is a series that many people love myself included. With so many different adventures and different iterations of Link we have not had one that talked in which the player could hear him. One exception is from the short-lived cartoon of the 80’s in which Link had a voice, but many would probably agree that maybe he should not have. With that one instance what do you think will happen in the upcoming live action film The Legend of Zelda?

Recently we have seen some pictures drop of Zelda and Link, and we can see the outfits and surroundings that have been chosen. Based off what we can see it looks like Zelda has similar clothes to the more recent games like The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. While Link has the more traditional green cloak from games like The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. We know what these games have brought forth in the series, but what will they do with Link and more importantly his voice?

On one hand they could provide Link with a voice and tell a story through his eyes like no other medium could in the series. How would that play out? Would they have him say lines or would we hear a voice that is him narrating or talking inside his head for the viewer to hear but he doesn’t interact with others in that nature in the movie. Or will we hear actual conversations that he has with townsfolk, main characters, and the enemies? Either way how will he sound when interacting in either of these styles.

On the other hand, what if Link was mute. He could not communicate in traditional ways and would have to find various ways to interact with others. One movie that comes to mind is A Quiet Place that utilizes a silent character, but we know that others help her convey the story in a multitude of ways. Could they go about doing this? The other example is from the current director of the movie, Wes Ball, who directed Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. These movies, though some speaking is within the movie, various other ways to communicate were present as from over time the Apes evolved using more sophisticated ways to communicate and prosper while humans seemed to regress. These sorts of skills could adapt nicely to how Link may decide to communicate with others.

I cannot wait for more information about the movie. Do you think Link will ultimately talk in this film or do you think he will remain silent? Are you looking forward to the movie and what is your favorite game in the series? Let us know your thoughts on the topic.
