Another year, another Game Awards. Whether you tune in religiously or think it’s as exciting as a wet fart, there were plenty of new game announcements that firm up the gaming pipeline. There were a range of indie and AAA titles of various genres (although JRPGs were lacking despite the Game of the Year was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG). Here are some of my personal highlights that I’m eagerly anticipating and marking on my calendar:

Ontos

Frictional Games has made a name for itself for atmospheric horror games such as Penumbra: Overture, (most) of the Amnesia franchise, and SOMA. Now, they are working on a spiritual successor of SOMA called Ontos which will thrust you into a sci-fi mystery and have you questioning reality itself. Not much else is known, but it is set to release sometime in 2026 on Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Oh, and you’ll hear the voiced of renowned actor Stellan Skarsgård.

Fun fact, ontos is a Greek word meaning, “truly”, “really”, or “of a truth”. Surely, we are in for some psychological damage when playing Ontos next year.

Control Resonant

Remedy Entertainment has announced their next Cotnrol game! This time, you play as Jesse Faden’s brother, Dylan, as you navigate a warped Manhattan. Explore this open action-adventure game as a member of the Federal Bureau of Control next year on Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Bradley the Badger

This game was not on my Game Awards bingo card, but I love a cheeky character in genre-bending indie titles. Founded by industry veterans behind games such as Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle and Red Dead Redemption, Day 4 Night studios bring us Bradley, voiced and acted by Evan Peters. As you control Bradley, you navigate your way to suspiciously familiar realms using game-dev inspired tools. I loved the reference to Bloodborne, The Last of Us, and Cyberpunk, and I can’t wait to see what other worlds we’ll explore as this cuddly fellow. So far, we don’t have a release date, but you can wishlist it on Steam.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic

Fate will be in your hands in the next Star Wars video game! Taking place in the Old Republic time, this single-player action-adventure RPG experience will act as a spiritual successor of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. It was only a teaser trailer, so we don’t know much else, but check it out:

Resident Evil: Requiem

Resident Evil: Requiem has already been announced, available for pre-order, and had two trailers; however, there’s something VERY SPECIAL about trailer number three. Leon S. Kennedy. Capcom already plans to delve deeper still in a future Capcom presents very soon. Sources indicate that you will spend about equal time playing as Grace and Leon. Grace’s section will play more like Resident Evil 2 while Leon’s section will be more action-packed like Resident Evil 4. And by the sounds of it, Nick Apostolides will reprise his role as the pun-loving badass. Resident Evil Requiem will launch February 27th, 2026.

A Tomb Raider Double Header!

Tomb Raider is back with both a reimaging and a brand-new mainline title.  Tomb Raider: Catalyst is the new game that will take Laura Croft through Northern India as a mythical cataclysm descends upon the world. It will be built using Unreal Engine 5, and developer Crystal Dynamics boasts that it will be the biggest Tomb Raider ever; however, we’ll have to wait until 2027. In the meantime, we can look forward to Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis in 2026 where modern storytelling, graphics, and gameplay will provide players familiar or new to the franchise with a new means of experiencing Lara’s first adventure.
